MyProtein Protein Brownie Review

We all know how much of a struggle it can be to eat clean all the time. For many it’s little more than a dream – something to aspire towards instead of a way of life. Fortunately for those of us who prefer cupcakes to cardio, the guys and girls over at MyProtein have created a brownie than is loaded with protein and contains 75% less sugar than a standard supermarket brownie!

MyProtein Protein Brownie Review: First Impressions

In the interests of making this Myprotein protein brownie review as accurate as possible, I decided not to share them with anyone else. You know, for science.

The first one I tried was at around 10pm. I wanted a snack before I went to bed so decided to give one of the protein brownies a try alongside a nice glass of ice cold, full fat milk.

You notice almost straight away that despite its size, the brownie is actually quite heavy. This is a very good thing. Next up for me was the smell. It smells amazing; my nose couldnt detect any difference between this and a brownie you’d pick up at the shops.

Finally, the last thing that I noticed upon first glance was how appealing it looked. Combining the smell with a few chocolate chips scattered around on the top of the brownie, there was no way I wasnt going to enjoy what came next.

MyProtein Protein Brownie Review: Taste

Next up is one of my most favourite hobbies – eating. This wouldn’t be a true Myprotein protein brownie review unless I ate as many of these brownies as possible as fast as possible, right? That was my initial game plan, however in the end I decided to spread things out a little.

When you bite in, you have to break through a very thin ‘crust’ – exactly as you’d expect. Don’t do what I did and take a huge bite, nearly choking to death. The brownie itself is very dense, which again is a good thing.

The mixture is moist and most certainly tastes of chocolate without any artificial aftertaste. It doesn’t taste overly sweet, yet you still get the sensation that you’re ‘cheating’ – although you can quickly rationalise this feeling away because you’re not eating nearly enough sugar to make your teeth fall out!

Top tip: Always check the packet before throwing it away – Ive found a rogue chocolate chip trying to escape on more than one occasion.

MyProtein Protein Brownie Review: Nutrition

For something that only weight 75g, MyProtein have managed to fit a lot of nutrition inside. Here are the macros:

  • Energy: 287 kcal
  • Fat: 9.7g (of which saturates: 4.2g)
  • Carbohydrates: 27g (of which sugars: 4g)
  • Fibre: 2g
  • Salt: 0.3g
  • Protein: 23g

Sure, it’s a little high in fat and sugar but if you sacrificed that flavour it would probably end up tasting like a chocolate brick. Consider it a reason to train that little bit harder.

MyProtein Protein Brownie Review: Value

In the interest of full disclosure, I was sent the goodies for this MyProtein protein brownie review for nothing. I gladly received a box of 12 in the post, free of charge. I did, however, order another three boxes not long after the originals ran out!

A box of 12 brownies costs £11.99, which is pretty much £1 per brownie. Better still, MyProtein are always running discounts and promotions so you could pick them up for a lot cheaper!

MyProtein Protein Brownie Review: Reflection

As I said earlier, I decided to keep all the brownies to myself. I made sure to eat them in a few different situations to make sure this MyProtein protein brownie review was as thorough as possible.

After completing an 18 minute CrossFit workout I grabbed one of these to eat as a post-workout snack. It was closing in on 4pm and I hadn’t eaten since 1pm so I was more than ready for some food. After throwing one of the protein brownies down alongside a protein shake, I didn’t start feeling hungry again until after about 6:30pm. As someone who suffers from bottomless-pit-stomach syndrome, I was more than happy with how that experiment turned out!

I’d also like to point out that these brownies are also incredibly versatile. In a little under 5 minutes I was able to create a very tasty frozen dessert by blending up two brownies to form the base of my cheesecake-inspired creation. Throw down a layer of sliced strawberries and top it off with some full fat Greek yoghurt and youve got yourself a winner.

MyProtein Protein Brownie Review: Verdict

Hand on heart, these are amazing. Now that my initial gluttonous binge has passed, I’ll probably only grab these as a snack when I’m craving something sweet (instead of shovelling them in).
